What You Need to Know About Plumbing Fixtures

With all the choices on the market today, it’s easy to get confused with plumbing fixtures! In this blog, we'll take a look at some of our favorite products and share what you need to know about plumbing fixtures.

As a designer, we are able to provide multiple selections such as faucets, shower heads, and handhelds. But we also can specify items like drains, diverters, rain heads, body sprays, and more! We source from a variety of brands depending on style and project budget, but our go-to brands are Delta or Kohler fixtures for most remodel and new construction homes. In our designs, we make sure to include all of the latest styles and trends that will continue to stand out as the best products on the market.

How do we choose the best plumbing finish for a project?

Plumbing fixtures are made of several materials, including the following:

Brass: Durable and resistant to corrosion, brass plumbing fixtures are commonly used in high-end homes.

Stainless steel: Stainless steel fixtures are easy to clean, durable, and can be used in both traditional and modern settings.

Chrome: The most widely-used material in plumbing fixtures, chrome is both durable and affordable while being versatile enough to match any bathroom or kitchen decor.

Nickel: Elegant and glamorous, nickel fixtures are stain-resistant and are a very common choice in contemporary homes.

We determine which finish is appropriate for our clients through a series of questions and getting to know their overall style and taste. Together, we will look at inspiration images and online photos to narrow down the finish.

Next, we determine which vendor has the perfect combination for the project, including price and style. Which fixture is going to fit your modern or traditional style?

If we are working on a high-end, luxury bath, there will probably be many fixtures included in a shower area. We may source a rain head, body sprays, handheld, and shower head. All of these options will give our clients the most control and best experience for their use of the bath. If the project requires less of an investment, we will often source a single shower head or one that has an integrated handheld to save on cost.

With faucets, a single-hole faucet is more cost-effective than a widespread one, where 3 holes and fixtures must be installed. Functionality is important to keep in mind here as a single-hole faucet can control the water temperature with one hand.

There are plenty of options available for whatever investment and specific needs fit you.

After we have everything selected, we make sure all fixtures are at the perfect height for our clients. We create elevations like the one below that mark precisely where we want the fixtures to be installed. This helps the contractor and plumber know the finished dimension heights for the client to best fit their lifestyle and preferences. We consider things like whether or not you have enough headroom to place the fixtures at standard heights between 78-84" above the finished floor (AFF). Once you've determined where all your fixtures will go and how they will position relative to other components such as valves and niches, then all that remains is installation!

With any project that includes plumbing fixtures, we ensure that it will cater to the needs of its occupants. By choosing the right fixtures, you can be sure to live a comfortable life in your space without unnecessary inconveniences.
